Holiday spices are here! Spice spotlight for December - Star Anise & Cardamom

We'll learn the history of the spice, what it is most commonly used for, and its health benefits. We'll share recipes we've tried and tips to using the spice. Can you use Star Anise and Cardamom in the same recipe? We'll find out!

How to participate:

1) Register to attend.

Registration is limited to residents of Altoona and rural Polk County for the first 7 days of registration and opens four weeks prior to the program. Open registration begins 3 weeks before the event.

2) Find and cook a new recipe using this month's spotlight spice. Bring the recipe card with you to the program to share. Feel free to substitute Anise Seed, if necessary.

No time to cook a new recipe or don't have the spice on hand? No worries? Find a recipe you'd like to try (with the spice in the ingredients, of course) and bring the recipe card with you!

3) Attend the program. We'll discuss everything about the spice, recipes we like and don't like, and cooking ideas/tips!

Note: At this time, no prepared food is allowed at this program. Please bring a paper copy only of the recipes you'd recommend.
